What is IRIS?
Inet Relay and Image Server is a customizable suite of programs to supply advanced enhancements to legacy applications. IRIS is normally positioned between the terminals (or client users) and the mainframe or server where it relays the data and thus performs a gateway or access control function. Since IRIS has the legacy application’s screen images it can serve the screen images and/or data to third party applications. It is used to add security, authentication, biometric control, logging, application enhancements, gateway functionality, protocol translations, VPN protection, data compression, etc. to legacy applications. (IRIS is often called the “INET proxy”.)
